Example – 1 . Marks out of 50 obtained by 100 students are given in the following data :

Solution :- 

Here n = 100, which is even. Therefore, the median will be the average of  50th and 51th observations. We proceed as follows :

From the above table, we se that : 50th observation = 28

and    51th observation = 29

So,     Median = ½(28 + 29) = 28.5
