Example - 4 : Co-ordinates of P and Q are (-3, x) and (1, x + 4). The mid-point of PQ is (-1, 1). Find the value of x.

Solution : Let mid-point of PQ be M.

Example - 5 : Find the coordinates of the points on the x - axis which are at a distance of 5 units from the points (6, 4).

Solution : Any point on x-axis has ordinates or y-coordinate 0. Let the point on x-axis be (x, 0). Distance of (x, 0) from (6, 4) is 5 units.
