Example - 2. A train covers a distance of 300km at a certain average speed. If its speed were decreased by 10km/hour, the journey would take 1 hour longer. What is the average speed of the train?

Solution : Let the average speed of the train be x km/hr.

Decreased speed = (x - 10) km/hr

Distance covered = 300km.

According to the question

Either x - 60 = 0 or x + 50 = 0

As speed is never negative
