Example - 6. Form a quadratic equation whose roots are 1/3 and - (1/4)

Solution : The quadratic equation whose roots are 1/3 and - (1/4) is

(x - 1/3) (x + 1/4) = 0

Or, (3x - 1) (4x + 1) = 0

Or, 12x² - 4x + 3x -1 = 0

Or, 12x² - x - 1 = 0
