My Mother Taught Me A Wrong God
My mother who is currently the President of the devotees of the Mother of Perpetual Help in San Agustin Parish, Diocese of Surigao Del Sur (Philippines) told me that I should not reject the doctrine that Christ is God because Christ is the God who became man so that He could make Himself visible to men to teach them and save them.
And I said, "If that doctrine is based on the truth written on the Bible, then I will accept, follow and live with that doctrine, however I will not hesitate to reject that doctrine if it contradicts the truth in the Bible because heresy will lead us to damnation, just like what Apostle Paul said:
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[a] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, (Galatians 5:19-20, NKJV)
That's the reason why Apostle John told us to check whether a doctrine or teaching is of God or not before accepting it and living with it.
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (I John 4:1, ibid)
When my mother convinced me to believe what she believes, she told me three (3) things that should be checked using the Holy Bible:
1. Christ is God.
CHRIST IS GOD
To know whether Christ is God, let us ask first Christ: who is the only true God? And through the Bible Christ answered:
1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should[a] give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. (John 17:1-3, ibid)
According to Christ, the Father is the only true God. But who is this Father who according to Christ, is the only true God? Christ again answered that the Father is His Father and the Father of his disciples, and His God and the God of His disciples:
17 Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.'" (John 20:17, ibid)
Now, it is clear that the ONLY TRUE GOD is not Christ but His Father.
GOD BECAME MAN
I wonder if Christ is only the result when God became man. We all know that God is Almighty,
1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. (Genesis 17:1, ibid)
and what ever God have said will be done.
11 Calling a bird of prey from the east,
But the question is: Would God change Himself from God to man? God answered:
6 " For I am the LORD, I do not change;
God said, He doesn't change. And Apostle James also made clear that God has no variation nor shadow of turning:
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. (James 1:17, ibid)
In other words, God will not let Himself change from God to man.
GOD MADE HIMSELF PHYSICALLY VISIBLE TO MAN
And lastly, God is invisible.
17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise,[a]be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. (I Timothy 1:17, ibid)
It is because God is spirit.
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:24, ibid)
For the spirit has no bones and flesh.
Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have." (Luke 24:39, ibid)
But is it possible that God made Himself physically visible to man by changing Himself from spirit to flesh and bones? Apostle John taught that no one has ever seen God at anytime:
12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. (I John 4:12, ibid)
In other words, God didn't make Himself physically visible to man, because if he did that, then Apostle John should have said that they or the Apostles had seen God physically.
In short, my mother's belief that Christ is the God who became man to make Himself visible to men to teach them and save them is wrong or false according to the truth written on the Holy Bible.
We should not forget that Christ is not the one true God, because according Christ Himself, it is His Father who is the only true God; God never changed from God to man; And that God never made Himself physically visible to man until now because no one has physically seen God.
